A Case of Dysmorphophobia : It's Dilemma of Diagnosis

Abstract
Dysmorphophobia is an uncommon psychiatric disorder characterized by a subjective feeling of physical defect or ugliness. Many writers have been concerned with the question that dysmorphophobic symptoms are symptoms of an underlying psychiatric
disorder
and it is mistaken to be equated with monosymptomatic hypochodriacal psychosis. It has been proposed in DSM-III-R to divide dysmorphophobia into two separate disorders : delusional disorder-somatic type and body dysmorphophobic disorder. But
clinically
it is very hard to distinguish delusion from overvalued idea in descriptive and phenomenological point of view. The authors described a 21-year-old woman who believed that her face was changed after injury of narcissitic self-esteem. But
practically it
was not possible to draw a sharp line between delusion and overvalued idea in her belief. Belief. The cases report supports these arguments.
